About this edition

Welcome to the October Edition of our ClimaTalk Journal!

This edition is published as the Biodiversity COP16 is drawing to a close and negotiators are setting out for Baku to the UNFCCC COP29. This proximity in time has prompted much recognition in the lead up to these conferences that the world must stop considering the climate and biodiversity crises as separated and instead focus on solutions that benefit both causes. As a consequence, in this month’s journal you will find many articles that contemplate these intertwined challenges and solutions, discussing amongst others the separation of biodiversity and climate during international negotiations, the impact of wildfire on ecosystems, nature-based solutions and environmental education.

But our writers also looked at the structures we live in discussing how cities are both drivers and victims of climate change (Harvey), how they can gain resilience (Aria) and what role urban planning plays in ensuring our cities are adapting to a warmer world (Aminu). Nusantara, the new Indonesian capital, is in this context an interesting case study of adjusting to the climate crisis but with potential impacts on biodiversity (see article by Mediatrix).

This month’s 20 articles include introductory and evaluative articles as well as case studies written by experienced young authors from around the world.

Each article is carefully researched, scientifically referenced and edited.
